He crashed a plane and developed debilitating paranoia. He experienced the protracted breakdown of his marriage. He subverted our entire reality and he froze to death, not on a door. WHAT MORE DO YOU PEOPLE WANT FROM LEONARDO DI CAPRIO? Luscious Leo makes another go of impressing the Academy with what looks like a killer role in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s first post-Birdman feature The Revenant. An 1820s frontiersman (that’s a man who lives on a frontier, obviously) seeks vengeance against those who robbed him and left him for dead when he was mauled by a bear. The plot is classic Western fare; as we now expect from Iñárritu the cinematography is jaw-dropping. We have long wondered when video games would accurately resemble real-life; this is real-life footage that looks like a video game, a palpable first-person shooter. Men-of-the-extended-moment Tom Hardy and Domhnall Gleeson, Will Poulter and Peaky Blinders‘ Paul Anderson are all along for the ride, but as ever the focus is on Leonardo; will he finally get to use that speech?
Check out the trailer below; if you’ve got any ideas for Leo’s Oscar speech, he’s asked that you include them in the comments below or tweet them to @dreamdepends. Much obliged, he said.
