TrailerTime: The Diary Of A Teenage Girl

Any regular movie-goer will know that finding a sincere depiction of teenage girl life is like striking gold. That is why I am so, so delighted to present the UK trailer for Marielle Heller’s wonderful The Diary Of A Teenage Girl. Fresh from winning Best International Film at Edinburgh Film Festival (as well as the Grand Prix in the always brilliant 14+ category at the Berlinale), Diary is an adaptation of Phoebe Gloeckner’s novel and is positively brimming with spirit, ideas and a whole bunch of drama. Bel Powley is Minnie, a sparky, smart teen artist in 1970s San Francisco. She has a crush on Monroe, who happens to be… her mother’s boyfriend. When he shows himself open to her feelings, the boundaries between adult and child are blurred and relationships get very messy. Powley’s performance is a real star-maker, while True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgård and Kristen Wiig also star. The film is released on August 7th in the UK and U.S. & the brilliantly 70s-styled poster is also below. Keep tabs on @DiaryTheMovie for the latest, & @dreamdepends of course will have the only review you need…
