There are too few credible dramas about people over the age of 60; and even fewer that consider love at that time in life. Andrew Haigh’s 45 Years, for which Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay won the Silver Bear for best actors at the Berlinale, is one of the best in, well, a long time (that’s me trying to avoid the easy gag and now failing). The first trailer is here, and shows just enough to suggest the emotionally devastating performances from both actors were well deserving of their awards. Click here or on the image below to view it on the Guardian website. Haigh’s prior film was the wonderfully honest Weekend; everything about 45 Years points to another absorbing, nuanced picture. The film is released on Friday 28th August in the UK; U.S. date to be confirmed.
